We were recently reminded of how special Au Gres is and how powerful simple thoughts and actions can be in the lives of others. Former coach and staff member Jeri Christie woke up to find her yard covered in plastic pink flamingos., each of which was wearing a necklace with a card of hope and inspiration as she recovers from a difficult situation. Kudos to Coach Danielle Gingerich and the volleyball team for the love, time, effort, thoughtfulness and action to touch the life of one of Au Gres' own. #WolverinesLead #PavingPossibilities

Why is a sinking fund kept separate from the regular school budget?
The two funds have different purposes.
The regular operating budget supports students, staff, programs, and everyday school operations.
Sinking fund dollars are kept in a separate dedicated fund for eligible long-term projects and expenses involving buildings, security, technology, transportation, and other purposes allowed by law. They are not used for regular salaries or everyday school expenses.

The book fair is coming to Au Gres-Sims Elementary on September 28th through October 2. We have a share the fair this year that allows you to donation to your child's class to help the teacher purchase books for the classroom. Go to the book fair home page and choose share the fair. Fifth grade had various learning opportunities today that were graciously provided by the Arenac Conservation District. Activities and rotations included topics like dairy cows, forestry, the water cycle, and zoonotics. We also ended the day with a tour at Hartwick Land and Cattle! It was a great day for learning new things!

3rd graders learned about idioms today. They drew the figurative and literal meanings, then shared with the class through an idiom scavenger hunt. They should "sleep like logs" tonight!

How does a sinking fund work?
The money is not received all at once. It is collected over time.
The district identifies eligible projects, sets priorities, and completes work as money becomes available. This means projects are planned and completed gradually.
A sinking fund uses a pay-as-you-go approach. The sinking fund itself does not involve borrowing money or paying interest.
