Safety starts before students even board the bus! Students should arrive at their bus stop early, stand at least 10 feet away from the road, and wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before approaching. Let’s clear up two common questions about school sinking funds.

MYTH: A sinking fund is the same as a bond.

FACT: A bond involves borrowing money and paying it back over time. The proposed sinking fund would use a pay-as-you-go approach. The fund itself would not involve borrowing or paying interest.

MYTH: Sinking fund money can be used for regular salaries.

FACT: Sinking fund dollars would stay separate from the regular operating budget. They would be used only for eligible long-term projects.
