Last Student Day of School for 2018-19

May 24, 2019

Dear Au Gres-Sims Community,

Au Gres-Sims School District cancelled school a total of 15 days this year, and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) had previously approved for us to waive nine (9) total days. However, this afternoon, my office received official confirmation from the MDE, and their Office of Pupil Accounting, verifying our approval for an additional four (4) days of waiver forgiveness for cancellations experienced when Governor Whitmer declared a state of emergency due to extreme weather this past winter.

To summarize, Michigan State Law requires that a local school district must have a minimum of 180 days in their school calendar.  Au Gres-Sims cancelled school 15 times in the 2018-19 school year.  The Michigan Department of Education has provided thirteen (13) waiver days for Au Gres-Sims, meaning that we must make-up two (2) days of lost instruction.  Therefore, with agreed upon direction from our local school board, our official last day of school for students in the 2018-19 school year has been adjusted accordingly to be Monday, June 10, 2019.

I thank you for your patience as the State of Michigan Government and Michigan Department of Education worked through this legislative process.

Yours in Education,

Jeffrey Collier
