AU GRES, MI – Au Gres-Sims School District is pleased to announce that it received a $2,500 grant from the Arenac Community Funds to help support the Science Olympiad Program at
Au Gres-Sims Middle School and High School. The grant process was facilitated by the Arenac Community Funds at the Bay Area Community Foundation.
Kevin Beardsley, Au Gres-Sims Science Olympiad Coach, stated, “The Arenac Community Funds and Bay Area Community Foundation have been vital partners with the Au Gres-Sims Science Olympiad Program for many years. This charitable grant helps provide necessary funding for tools and resources to compete at the highest levels of Science Olympiad.” He added, “From robot arms to convex mirrors, the Arenac Community Funds continue to put science and technology directly into the hands of our students.”
The Au Gres-Sims Science Olympiad Program has had a rich tradition of success. Most recently, in 2015-16, the middle school team won the entire regional competition as they advanced to the state tournament; and in 2016-17, both the middle school and high school teams advanced to the state competition.
Au Gres-Sims Principal, Chad Zeien, said, “This funding helps provide sustainability to our very competitive and successful Science Olympiad Program comprised of students in all grades throughout our middle school and high school. It helps equalize the playing field by allowing a district of our size to compete with much larger schools at a regional and state level.”
The Bay Area Community Foundation awards grants twice a year to local nonprofits and 501(c)(3)s in Bay and Arenac Counties. The Foundation’s mission is to fulfill a wide array of donors’ charitable wishes by building permanent endowment funds and serving as a leader for community improvement through effective grant-making and collaboration.
Au Gres-Sims School District wishes to express deep gratitude to the Arenac Community Funds at the Bay Area Community Foundation for providing these excellent learning resources for students through granted community funds.
