The Au Gres-Sims Senior Band has been awarded a wonderful opportunity to perform at the 2018 Michigan Music Conference.  The Music Conference is an annual conference held in Grand Rapids that involves workshops, clinics, and performances by choirs, orchestras, concert and jazz bands.  This conference is attended by more than 9,000 educators, guest artists, and student from around our state and other states as well.

The Au Gres-Sims Band applied for this honor last spring by entering a recording of our State Band Festival performance. Other items required for the application are concert programs from the last two years, letters of recommendation from festival judges, and our District and State scoring record for the last five years.  Out of 36 bands that applied,  Au Gres-Sims was one of eleven bands that were accepted to perform.  We will be the only Class D high school band in attendance.

The band will be performing a 45 minute concert in DeVos Hall.  This aditorium is home to the Grand Rapids Symphony and seats 2,404 people.  It will be a once in a lifetime experience for our students.

We will be leaving on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 and staying overnight in Grand Rapids to attend our performance on Friday, January 26th.  We will be visiting the Gerald Ford Museum, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, and listening to the opening performance of the conference in DeVos Hall on Thursday night.  This performance will include the Eastern Michigan University Choir and the Oakland University Wind Symphony.

We will have approximately 50 students performing and the cost of the trip is roughly $150 per student.  I would also like to provide t-shirts for our students and pay for one of their meals during the trip.  We are looking to raise $8,500.  We appreciate your support and we are working hard to do our best to represent Au Gres-Sims with pride!
